Supporting a Galaxy, Far Far Away: Our Crew Clinics on Ahsoka Series 2
The Film Physios’ visiting crew clinics bring accessible, comprehensive healthcare directly to set or location, giving crew immediate access to expert physiotherapists and osteopaths. By addressing injuries early, reducing downtime, and keeping people functioning at their best, these clinics help maintain production productivity while clearly demonstrating a production’s commitment to crew welfare and a healthier working environment. Below is one Crew Clinic example.
As the Star Wars universe continues to expand, so do the demands placed on the incredible crews bringing these stories to life. During the production of Ahsoka Series 2, The Film Physios were proud to once again provide specialist on-set healthcare through our visiting ‘Crew Clinics’ service. We ensured the people behind the camera had access to comprehensive care at their convenience.
Embedded Healthcare Across Two Major Studios
Filming on Ahsoka Series 2 spanned Longcross Studios and Pinewood Studios, with teams moving between the two locations at pace to maintain production timelines. To support this dynamic environment, we operated crew physiotherapy and osteopathy clinics five days a week, for a seven-week production period — providing accessibility no matter which studio crew were working from.
Maintaining continuity of care across multiple sites was essential. Our clinicians integrated seamlessly into the production, coordinating with the medical team, assistant directors, health & safety leads, and department heads to ensure treatment was always available when required — not when the diary happened to allow. The service was also extended to the principal cast.
Care That Keeps Production Productive
The intense physical demands of long filming days, heavy equipment handling, and set construction can quickly lead to injuries or persistent pain if not managed proactively. An ‘old injury’ is very common in the industry. Many crew members experience conditions that require timely intervention — but traditional healthcare appointments often aren’t possible when working through long or unpredictable call times.
Over the course of 7 weeks, we delivered:
- 450+ successful appointments
- Treatment and support for over 250 crew members
- 60+ appointments per week across the production
For many, this was treatment they simply would not have been able to access outside of the studio environment. Quick, expert intervention helped manage ongoing issues, prevent escalation into time-off, and even improve performance on the job.
What We Treated
Our clinicians addressed a wide range of filming-related physical challenges, including:
- Neck and back pain from equipment loading and long hours on feet
- Shoulder and arm strains common in camera and lighting teams
- Knee and ankle conditions from set builds and stunt preparation
- Repetitive strain injuries from high-precision technical work
Treatments included manual therapy, acupuncture, shockwave therapy, supportive taping, exercise prescription, and tailored injury prevention strategies.
Prioritising Crew Wellbeing
While audiences focus on the actors and incredible visual effects, it’s the crew who build the galaxy we all love. Their wellbeing directly impacts production continuity — and we take that responsibility seriously.
By keeping crew moving, pain-free, and able to do the jobs they love, we help productions stay on schedule and avoid costly downtime related to musculoskeletal injury.
Proud Partners in Storytelling
Working on Ahsoka Series 2 has been a privilege for our team, and we are continually inspired by the skill and passion of the people we support in front and behind the camera. We look forward to continuing our work across the Star Wars universe and beyond — ensuring the industry’s finest stay healthy while making the stories the world can’t wait to see.
If your production could benefit from on-site physiotherapy, osteopathy, or tailored well-being services, we’d love to support your team.
